Updates Coming To Statsbomb In 2024

As we near 2024, it’s important to look ahead to what will be coming in 2024. We take a look back to the Statsbomb Conference 2023 that kicked off with an opening talk by Ted Knutson, Founder of Statsbomb. He highlighted the remarkable developments in the field of sports analysis and the work done by Statsbomb in their 10 years.

With Statsbomb entering their 11th year there were some big updates announced as they look to keep progressing in 2024. We have provided a brief overview of these new features from the introduction speech from the 2023 Conference, which you can view here.

What’s on the Horizon for 2024

Integration of video

Statsbomb has some exciting plans for 2024. The most notable development is the integration of data and video. This was one of the most requested features to be added to Statsbomb to enable it to become a one-stop destination for all sports analysis needs. Much like Instat and Wyscout, users will be able to click on an event and instantly access the corresponding video footage.

New interface

Statsbomb IQ will see a new polished interface to match their new ambitions. The new interface will enable Statsbomb to start integrating mobile and tablet friendliness.

More Customisation

A whole new suite of reports and dashboards will be added to Statsbomb IQ enabling users to extract the information they desire from the data. For the radars, users will be able to create their metrics, and their definitions (for example – “Assist Zone”).

IQ AI Assistant

As with many of the world’s companies, Statsbomb is developing an AI assistant that can enable further insights for users from the vast amount of data available on Statsbomb. There was not much information on this feature but we assume it will be similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT to provide more searching and filtering powers to the Statsbomb users.

Physical data metrics

American football analysts might have already experienced the new tracking capabilities of Statsbomb and its full set of physical metrics. However, Statsbomb is looking to use this technology to bring metrics such as total distance, sprint speed, and deceleration to football/soccer.

Help us, help you

Statsbomb also aims to advance set piece analysis but is hampered by the lack of tactical footage, particularly as the box is not visible for set pieces on broadcast footage. Statsbomb made an open call to clubs for collaboration in exchange for early access to their beta program for video integration. For users starting to send tactical footage to Statsbomb, they will be first on the list for the beta program and get the beta completely free until June 2024.
